Healthy Decorating

Often the last thing we think about when decorating our homes is our physical health when it should be the first. What good is a beautiful room if the materials used to build, decorate, and care for it make us sick? When we think about our homes we think of protection and shelter, but the materials we use to decorate and the products we use to clean make the air quality in our homes more polluted than the air outside. Our homes should be a sanctuary, yet often our homes are just as stressful on our bodies as the outer world. In order to be a true refuge, it’s important that our homes support our physical health. Rearranging Your Home to Make Being Green Easier…


Sometimes it’s the smallest, most insignificant things that get in the way of our good intentions. Most of us want to lead healthier lives and do our part in protecting our planet. So why, when we learn that making small changes could help us accomplish those goals, don’t we? If you’re honest with yourself—it’s probably because in this busy, harried world we all live in if it isn’t easy, and I mean really easy, we don’t have the time or the energy to change our routine or go that extra mile. Being green is not only about a list of external tasks, such as changing light bulbs, using your own cloth grocery bags, or switching to reusable water bottles. Green is a way of being, and living, that emanates from the inside. Living green stems from a consciousness of oneness and compassion that naturally drives us toward making better choices for both the planet and ourselves.

It’s no surprise that so many people are overwhelmed by the idea of going green. We are inundated with information about all the things we need to do, and (ironically) buy, to be eco-friendly. It can feel both cost and time prohibitive, but don’t be discouraged. The simplest and perhaps most effective way to help the planet, doesn’t cost money or take time.
