… and bonus toddler tips!

With the holidays approaching many of us will be taking to the roads, or the air, to see our families… There is no question making the journey with young children in tow can be challenging, but the more prepared you are the better chance your trip will be enjoyable.

In addition to the following tips, make sure to set an intention that your travels are filled with ease, grace, and flow. Talk to your baby and young children a day or so in advance and let them know what to expect during your travels. I would always say to my children “the best thing to do on an airplane is sleep.” And do your best to stay calm, centered, and positive even if faced with traffic, delays, or other complications. As we all know children pick up on our feelings, so how you handle the journey will often set the stage for their experience.   (more…)

Staying Present With Your Children

I am aware that when I “lose it’ with my kids it usually has little to do with their behavior, no matter how taxing, embarrassing or outrageous it may be, and everything to do with judging myself.

When I stay present, both with my children and myself, and choose to just listen and be with them through their struggle or tantrum, I find the situation diffuses more rapidly. And often my response is much more creative, compassionate, and effective. I am able to use my child’s meltdown as an opportunity for learning, love, connection, and healing rather than a moment where I say something I don’t mean or lose my temper – which of course I invariably regret once I have calmed down.

About Our Blog

Forbes

Welcome to our blog Peaceful Homes, Peaceful Lives.

This blog is about bringing a new awareness to your home and life. Our intention is to awaken a deeper consciousness that will inspire peaceful living.

It is our belief that peace begins at home; in yourself and in the little everyday moments.  By changing your inner world–the way you think about your home and life–you will naturally make changes in your outer world–your physical surroundings, your relationships, career and choices. We hope to inspire you from the inside out so your daily life is infused with greater intention, purpose and peace.

We are sisters and co-owners of The Art of Everyday Living a home and lifestyle consulting company. We are also co-authors of the book, The Peaceful Nursery; Preparing a Home for your Baby. We have a second blog, Mom to Mom Wisdom and Children’s Wisdom is in the works. If you would like to learn more about us, please click here.

Over the years we have created, and continue to evolve, a way of living that is based on the following beliefs:

- Our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being is connected to the health and well-being of our homes.
- Our homes are a reflection of our consciousness; therefore we can change our lives by changing our homes.
- Home is a place in consciousness as much as it is a physical space.
- We feel most at home and at peace when both our inner- and outer-worlds are aligned.
- Everyone and everything are connected, so by creating a conscious lifestyle and home, your positive intentions will enhance your life, your children’s lives, and the lives of those around you.
- It’s the little, everyday moments that make up our lives, so change can begin at home, in ourselves, as we go about our daily tasks.
- By bringing awareness and intention to everyday task there is potential for spirituality in each and every moment.
- The intention and energy that we bring to the process is as, or more, important than the result.
- More and more people are searching for deeper meanings and connections, in their careers, with their friends and family, and within their home. As a result, the traditional notions of a homemaker are being reshaped and redefined as people create and discover their own path to establishing the home and lifestyle of their dreams.
- By bringing peace, organization, and beauty into your home using healthy, sustainable materials, you are also bringing those same qualities into your life.
