A New Look at Interior Design

Usually when we think of designing a home we immediately think about how our home will look. It’s common to begin the decorating process by focusing on aesthetics and although important, we believe that when we design our homes we should be equally concerned with how something feels and how it affects our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being. Our homes can affect the quality of our lives, our relationships, our health, and our chances of success and fulfillment. Our homes reflect and even shape our lives, therefore, in many ways, what we do to our homes we also do to ourselves. (more…)

Healthy Decorating

Often the last thing we think about when decorating our homes is our physical health when it should be the first. What good is a beautiful room if the materials used to build, decorate, and care for it make us sick? When we think about our homes we think of protection and shelter, but the materials we use to decorate and the products we use to clean make the air quality in our homes more polluted than the air outside. Our homes should be a sanctuary, yet often our homes are just as stressful on our bodies as the outer world. In order to be a true refuge, it’s important that our homes support our physical health. The Art of Everyday Living

So often our attention is drawn to the big events in our lives, those that have happened and those we anticipate. Yet, it is the little everyday moments—such as eating, getting dressed, working, caring for children, running errands, walking the dog—that make up the majority of our lives.  It’s easy to get caught up thinking ahead, planning for the future or fantasizing about what may happen. It is just as common to focus on looking back, dwelling on the past, reminiscing, or imagining how we would have done something differently. But in fact, life happens in the present moment. Life is in the pauses, and the in-betweens on the path to somewhere, and in the process of getting things done. Life is now. (more…)
