Have you ever been on a vacation and come back with a new outlook on life? Taken a trip and been inspired to make a change? What happens when you come home? Do you retain your new outlook and follow through on the change or do you return to old habits and lose the inspiration or clarity you connected with so strongly on your vacation? Often when we travel we see things differently and gain perspective on our current situation and many times this new way of seeing our life and/or the world inspires us to make necessary changes. Yet, it’s easy to return home and slip back to old habits and routines and forget the feelings and dismiss the insights we had while away. This is because we may have changed on vacation but our homes did not. In other words, our energy has shifted, but our home still reflects our previous values and holds our past patterns in place. One of the first pieces of dating advice most people hear is “you aren’t going to meet anyone sitting at home.” We don’t necessarily disagree, but we do think that home is a great place to start. A home may be a source of inspiration, learning, and healing. Our homes affect how we feel about ourselves, and our ability to be productive and successful by reflecting and influencing our thoughts—and our thoughts shape our reality. For me, change always begins at home. After years of working on myself and my home, I have realized how deeply connected I am to my environment. When my home is in disarray or cluttered and it doesn’t reflect my current goals, my inner life feels chaotic. On the other hand, when I apply the principles of Feng Shui by surrounding myself with things I love, beautiful objects, and peaceful furnishings, I experience inner beauty, love, and peace. Although it may seem superficial, your appearance can go a long way when it comes to how you feel about yourself and how others perceive you. Most of us have had a bad hair day, and although it’s doubtful that others pay much attention to the state of our hair, we think about it and it can affect our behavior. For example, we may be less outgoing or less apt to introduce ourselves to someone new or speak up at a meeting. How we think we look affects how we interact with others. A great way to love yourself is to take care of your appearance: buying flattering clothes, getting a new haircut, or going to the gym can all be uplifting, but keep in mind it’s not how the clothes, haircut, or exercise make you look, but how they make you feel. The people who attract the most attention in life aren’t always the most beautiful or best dressed, but simply confident people who are having a good time and therefore attracting other confident, happy people.
